TRI-COUNTY AMATEUR RADIO CLUB will be participating in the 2024 International
Lighthouse Lightship weekend event from a locaton within sight of the Lightship LV Petrel
which is permantly berthed in Strangford Lough.
Lightship Petrel was built in 1915. The vessel was constructed by the Dublin dockyard
company and she is the only remaining floating lightvessel in Ireland.
She spent most of her service life at Blackwater Bank on the river Blackwater, Wexford.
The lightvessel was decomissioned in 1968, following her decomissioning, she was sold to
Hammond Lane Founderies in Dublin.
The Down Cruising club at Strangford Lough subsequently bought her and have now fully
restored her.
